Digital Skills Training for Thai Students in Egypt

On 28 November 2024, the Royal Thai Embassy together with the Thai Students’ Association in Cairo under the Royal Patronage organised a Google Sheets workshop, using materials from Google’s Applied Digital Skills. The students learned how to prepare, analyze and share data using tools such as pivot tables, functions and charts. There were 14 students participated and received certificates from Google’s Applied Digital Skills. The said workshop is part of a Digital Skills Training program aimed to improving the digital skills of Thai students and preparing them for the world of work after graduation.

The Establishment of the Thailand-Egypt Joint Trade Commission (JTC)

On 26, December 2024, His Excellency the Thai Minister of Trade Mr. Pichay Naripthavan, and His Excellency the Egyptian Minister of Foreign Trade and Investment Mr. Hassan Al-Khatib, officially signed the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on the establishment of the Joint Trade Commission and the Joint Action Plan (JAP) for Economic Cooperation, aimed at strengthening bilateral economic cooperation. Based on Thailand’s 13th Economic and Social Plan (2023-2027) and Egypt’s Vision 2030, the Joint Action Plan (JAP) has been developed to promote innovation-based economic growth, focusing on five major areas of economic cooperation, namely: trade and investment, agriculture, conventions and industrial areas, small, medium and small-scale enterprises (MSMEs), and tourism. The Memorandum of Understanding and the Joint Action Plan represent a joint commitment to promoting economic growth, mutual trade and deepening relations between the two countries.

276th ASEAN Committee in Cairo Out-of-Cairo Heads of Mission Meeting

During 22-23 December 2024, Mr. Thanabordee Joothong, Chargé d'affaires a.i., attended the 276th ASEAN Committee in Cairo (ACC) Out-of-Cairo Heads of Mission Meeting at Movenpick Hotel in El Gouna, hosted by the Brunei Embassy and chaired by the Ambassador of Singapore. The Meeting discussed the ACC Annual Activities to raise awareness about ASEAN in Egypt including Thailand’s proposal to organize Brown Bag Sessions on ASEAN in collaboration with leading Egyptian Universities in 2025. In addition, ACC visited El Gouna Fish Farm, which helped reduce the salinity in the by-product of the desalination process before releasing back into the ocean. This is one example of sustainable development in Egypt. On this occasion, the Ambassador of Singapore also handed over the ACC chairmanship to the Ambassador of Malaysia, who will take up the role for the first half of 2025.

National Day of the Kingdom of Thailand 2024

On 10 December 2024, the Royal Thai Embassy organised a reception on the occasion of the National Day of the Kingdom of Thailand at Cairo Marriott Hotel, with Dr. Sharif Farouk, Minister of Supply and Internal Trade of the Arab Republic of Egypt, as the Guest of Honour. The reception was well attended by the diplomatic community and Friends of Thailand from both public and private sector. At the reception, a video compilation highlighting important visits and the Embassy’s activities that took place throughout this year, which marks the 70th anniversary of Thailand-Egypt diplomatic relations, was shown. There were demonstrations of traditional Thai flower garlands making and fruit carving. Guests also enjoyed a variety of Thai cuisines and sweets, especially Tomyum Kung, which was recently inscribed on UNESCO's list of the Intangible Cultural Heritage (ICH).

On 4 December 2024, Mr. Ahmed Reda, Chamberlain of the Presidency, paid a courtesy call on Mr. Thanabordee Joothong, Charge d'affaires, at the Royal Thai Embassy to congratulate on the occasion of the National Day of Thailand as well as His Majesty King Bhumibol’s Birthday and Father's Day of Thailand on 5 December 2024. Both sides discussed about the existing cordial relationship between Thailand and Egypt, which this year marks the 70th anniversary of the establishment of our diplomatic relations, as well as ways to promote our bilateral relations in various dimensions.

Capacity-building seminar for the 69th and 70th committees of the Thai Students’ Association in Cairo Under the Royal Patronage

From 1 – 3 December 2024, the Royal Thai Embassy in Cairo held a capacity-building seminar for the 69th and 70th committees of the Thai Students’ Association in Cairo Under the Royal Patronage at the Zad Elmosafer Hotel, Faiyum. The seminar aimed to create an understanding on the Royal Thai Government's policy to support Thai students abroad. At the same time, they provided knowledge about the working system of the Embassy, project proposal and disbursement procedures, as well as “do and don’t” for Thai students in Egypt. In addition, it was an opportunity to brainstorm new projects throughout the 2024 fiscal year and for the outgoing 69th committee to transfer their knowledge to the 70th one, who had just assumed their roles on 18 November 2024.
