On 1-2 October 2024, the Royal Thai Embassy led a Thai business delegation to pay a courtesy call on Major General Islam Attia Rayan, Chairman of Board of Director and Chief Executive Officer of the National Company for Fisheries and Aquaculture of Egypt, to discuss about possible cooperation on fishery between Thailand and Egypt. In addition, the Thai business delegation visited to fish farms projects in the north of Egypt on the Mediterranean Sea, namely Al Fayrouz fish farm in the Port Said Governorate and Ghalioun fish and shrimps farm in Kafr El Sheikh Governorate. The abovementioned activities are part of the Embassy’s initiative on business-matching for the Thai private sector with the Egyptian side in the fields of agriculture and fishery.

On 2 October 2024, Mr. Thanabordee Joothong, Chargé d'Affaires a.i., together with Ambassadors and Chargé d'Affaires a.i. from ASEAN Committee in Cairo (ACC) attended the Seminar on ASEAN at the Institute for Diplomatic Studies (IDS). There were over 60 attendees including Ambassador Walid Haggag, Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs and Director of the IDS, executives from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Egypt as well as diplomatic attachés enrolled at the IDS. The Ambassador of Singapore as the Chair of ACC gave a briefing on the history and economic integration of ASEAN, the relations between ASEAN and Egypt, key factors of success and challenges which can be a lesson for other regions. During the exchange of views and Q&A, diplomatic attachés had the opportunity to discuss issues of their interests such as defense cooperation in ASEAN, rivalries between major powers in the Asia-Pacific region, ASEAN’s position on Gaza, and situation in the South China Sea, as well as bilateral relations with Egypt. This event was held for the second time since 2022, with the aim of promoting awareness about ASEAN among young Egyptian diplomats.

On 29 September 2023, the Royal Thai Embassy led a Thai business delegation to hear a briefing from Dr. Ahmed Nasr-Allah (PhD), Country Director – Egypt, WorldFish Abbassa Research Center in Sharkia Governorate. Established in 1998, WorldFish in Egypt has been a strategic partner with the Egyptian Government in genetics improvement of the Nile tilapia and African catfish, sustainably increasing productivity of fish farms, and minimising environmental impacts of aquaculture system. By 2025, WorldFish aims to help improve the lives of more than 7 million Egyptians through increasing fish production from 1 million tonnes per year to 1.5 million tonnes and creating 70,000 new jobs as well as improved nutrition in line with the Egyptian aquaculture strategy. On this occasion, the Thai private delegation exchanged information on aquaculture in Thailand and discussed about possible cooperation with WorldFish in the future. Furthermore, on 30 September 2024, the Thai private sector delegation met with Mr. Mohamed Salah Qanawi, General Manager of the Kafr El Sheikh Chamber of Commerce, and Mr. Hassan Abdel Khaleq, Managing Director of the Kafr El Sheikh Fish Stock Exchange, to learn about fish farms operation and management in Kafr Ei Sheikh which produces more than 65 percent of Nile tilapia, the most consumed fish among Egyptians. The abovementioned two activities are part of the Embassy’s initiative on business-matching for the Thai private sector with the Egyptian side in the fields of agriculture and fishery.

On 29 September 2024, the Royal Thai Embassy in Cairo hosted the 273rd ASEAN Committee in Cairo (ACC) Heads of Mission Meeting at Cairo Marriott Hotel, chaired by Singapore. Mr. Thanabordee Joothong, Chargé d'affaires a.i., briefed the meeting on the two Brown Bag Sessions on ASEAN, which were initiated by Thailand, with Badr University in Cairo (BUC) and the American University in Cairo (AUC) on 22 and 24 September 2024 respectively. Both events helped promote the relationship and raise awareness about ASEAN in Egypt. The meeting also welcomed the new Malaysian Ambassador to Egypt as well as discussed the ACC activities for the rest of the year.

On 24 September 2024, the Royal Thai Embassy in Cairo together with the ASEAN Committee in Cairo (ACC) organized the “Brown Bag Session on ASEAN” at the American University in Cairo (AUC). There were over 80 attendees including the faculties, AUC and ASEAN students. Singapore as the Chair of ACC gave a briefing on the history and economic integration of ASEAN and the relations between ASEAN and Egypt. Afterwards, three selected groups of students presented their analyses of ASEAN’s digital economy, economic agreements and ASEAN policy towards SMEs. In addition, the ACC members exchanged views with the students after the presentations. The “Brown Bag Session on ASEAN” was initiated by Thailand and co-organised by the ASEAN Committee in Cairo and the leading universities in Egypt. This seminar, held for the fourth time since 2023, aims to promote awareness about ASEAN in Egypt.
