Ambassador Presents Letters of Credence to the President of the Republic of Djibouti

On 18 June 2026, H.E. Mr. Thanawat Sirikul, Ambassador-designate of Thailand to Djibouti, presented his Letters of Credence accrediting him as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Kingdom of Thailand to the Republic of Djibouti, with residence in Cairo, to H.E. Mr. Ismaïl Omar Guelleh, President of the Republic of Djibouti, at the Presidential Palace in Djibouti. On this occasion, the President expressed his condolences on the passing of Her Royal Highness Princess Bajrakitiyabha Narendiradebyavati Kromluangrajasarinisiribajra Mahavajrarajadhita.

During the visit, the Ambassador met with several officials and representatives to discuss ways to strengthen Thailand–Djibouti bilateral relations. They included H.E. Mr. Abdoulkader Houssein Omar, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Djibouti; Ambassador Mohamed Idriss Farah, Chief Advisor to the Minister of Foreign Affairs; Mr. M Mahdi Obsieh Bouh, Director of the Department of Bilateral Relations; the Ambassador of Yemen, Dean of the Diplomatic Corps in Djibouti; the Ambassadors of Japan and India; and Mrs. Koran Ahmed Aouled, Honorary Consul in Djibouti. He also visited key transportation, public health, and tourism infrastructure sites, including Doraleh Container Terminal, Doraleh Multipurpose Port, Al Shefa Hospital, which is scheduled to open on 29 June 2026, and Moucha and Maskali Islands. Djibouti occupies a strategic location at the entrance to the Red Sea, along one of the world’s busiest shipping lanes. It serves as an important shipping hub for East Africa, with strong potential for continued economic growth. Thailand and Djibouti established diplomatic relations on 1 April 1986.
