On 25 June 2026, Ambassador Thanawat Sirikul chaired the 285^th ASEAN Committee in Cairo (ACC) meeting at the Triumph Luxury Hotel, hosted by the Embassy of Brunei Darussalam. The meeting welcomed H.E. Ms. Charmaine Rowena C. Aviquivil, the new Philippine Ambassador-designate, and discussed activities for the second half of 2026 to strengthen ASEAN awareness in Egypt and ASEAN-Egypt relations across government, private sector, and people-to-people levels, including political, economic, sports, and cultural cooperation. The Committee has held three activities so far this year: a joint Iftar during Ramadan, a Lunch Talk with Ambassador Amr Hamza, Assistant Foreign Minister for Asian Affairs, and the 7^th ASEAN Lecture, jointly organized with the British University in Egypt (BUE), with the Royal Thai Embassy serving as main coordinator. The meeting also exchanged views on the development of bilateral relations with Egypt and best practices in consular affairs. At the close of the meeting, Thailand handed over the Committee chairmanship to the Philippines and assumed the treasurer role from Viet Nam for the second half of 2026.
