The Royal Thai Embassy in Cairo, together with Department of South Asian, Middle East and African Affairs, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Thailand, led a group of 27 Thai businesspeople from the food processing industry, Export-Import Bank of Thailand, and Halal Science Center at Chulalongkorn University on their visit to Egypt from 10-14 February 2026. H.E. Ms. Ursa Mongkolnavin, Director-General of the Department, headed the delegation, aiming to boost economic, trade, and investment ties between Thailand and Egypt.
The Embassy arranged various activities involving government and private agencies. Highlights included Thailand–Egypt Business Forum, co-organized with the General Authority for Investment and Free Zones, which offered insights into Egyptian investment opportunities. The delegation also attended a presentation by Hi-Tech Apparel, the first Thai company to build a textile and garment factory in Egypt’s Suez Canal Economic Zone, set to open in mid-2026. Afterwards, they participated in business matching sessions with more than 60 Egyptian businesspeople from the Egyptian Businessmen’s Association network, helping strengthen partnerships between Thai and Egyptian entrepreneurs.
Additionally, the delegation met prominent Egyptian private sector leaders, including executives from Lulu Hypermarket, to discuss Thai product exports and research consumer preferences in Egypt. They joined a reception hosted by Mr. Mohamed Sabry, Chair of the Egyptian-Thai Business Council, visited Edita Food Industries—a leading Egyptian snack producer—and met with Dusit Thani Lakeview Hotel executives, exemplifying successful Thai business operations in Egypt. They also explored New Cairo and Sheikh Zayed, two dynamic economic hubs with strong growth potential, and participated in the opening ceremony of the Thai Food Bazaar 2026. Throughout these four days, Thai entrepreneurs gathered insights about the popularity and reputation for quality and reliability of Thai goods and services in Egypt. The country presents opportunities as a new market and investment destination, as well as a gateway to Africa and the Middle East.
The annual Thai-Egyptian business matching project has taken place since 2023, but this was the first occasion held in Egypt. This highlights the dedication of both nations to advancing comprehensive economic collaboration, establishing business networks, expanding trade and investment into promising regions like Africa and the Middle East, and further strengthening economic ties between Thailand and Egypt in line with Thailand-Africa Initiative.
