During 16-22 February 2026, the Senate Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs, led by Chairman H.E. Mr. Nirat Yoopakdee and a delegation of 22 members, visited Egypt. H.E. Mr. Thanawat Sirikul, Ambassador of Thailand to Egypt, welcomed the delegation and participated in meetings with Dr. Mohamed Kamal, Chairman of the Egyptian Senate Foreign Affairs Committee; Ambassador Wael Hamed, Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs for European Affairs and Head of the National Office for the Implementation of the Egypt–European Union Association Agreement ; and Mr. Sayed Fouad, Minister Plenipotentiary, the Egyptian Commercial Service (ECS). During these three meetings, the Thai side expressed interest in learning about Egypt's experience in securing a free trade agreement with the European Union, as well as its economic conditions, infrastructure, and investment regulations. The Thai side believes that Egypt could serve as a gateway for Thailand to Africa, particularly as a production base for exporting to new markets in Africa, the Middle East, and Europe. Furthermore, both sides exchanged views on the regional situation and discussed promoting people-to-people relations, such as in education, tourism, and encouraging the resumption of direct flights between Bangkok and Cairo as well as the value of tolerance in a multicultural society. In addition, the commission met with the president of the Thai Students’ Association in Cairo under Royal Patronage and student representatives to offer encouragement and learn about the living conditions and opinions of Thai youth studying in Egypt.
