Ambassador of Thailand to Egypt led the Team Thailand for an official visit and organised a Mobile Consular Service in Hurghada

On 5-7 April 2025, H.E. Mr. Thanawat Sirikul, Ambassador of Thailand to Egypt, led the Team Thailand consisted of Mr. Niwat Apichartbutra, Commercial Attaché, Office of Commercial Affairs in Cairo, Mr. Tanit Loipimai, Labour Attaché, and Mr. Pholawat Chuentrakul, Counsellor, Office of Labour Affairs in Riyadh, also accredited to Egypt, for an official visit and organised an annual mobile consular service in Hurghada.

On 5 April 2025, the Ambassador together with Mr. Niwat Apichartbutra, Commercial Attaché, Office of Commercial Affairs in Cairo, presented the Thai Select certificate to White Elephant Thai Restaurant in el Gouna, which signifies its authenticity and quality of service according to the standard of the Ministry of Commerce of Thailand as well as expressed their admiration and appreciation for its role in promoting Thai cuisine in Egypt for more than 20 years. Afterwards, the Ambassador and the Team Thailand visited el Gouna, a resort town along the coastline of Red Sea. The construction was started in 1989 on the land area of 37 square kilometers by Mr. Samih Sawiris, owner of Orascom Construction, who has a vision to build an eco-friendly city. On this occasion, the Ambassador exchanged knowledge on sustainable tourism and discussed about cultural exchange opportunities with el Gouna.

On 6 April 2025, the consular officers of the Embassy organised a mobile consular service for the Thai community in Hurghada and nearby cities. The services included passport application, consultation, and the application for Thailand Overseas Employment Administration (TOEA) Fund. The Ambassador also met with the Thai community, around 50 people who work as masseuses and chefs, at White Elephant Thai Restaurant in Hurghada. He also presented the “Volunteer Consul Award 2024” certificate together with its pin and jacket to Mrs. Vipha Khontrong, owner of White Elephant Thai Restaurant, Second Volunteer Consul in Egypt for her continuous support to the Embassy’s consular work and help the Thai community in Hurghada for many years. The Ambassador also commended Thai community in Hurghada for their unity and helping to promote a good image of Thailand.

On 7 April 2025, the Ambassador and the Team Thailand visited Fort Arabesque Resort and Jaz Elite Casa Del Mar Beach Hotel to meet with the General Managers of both hotels and exchange views on ways to promote employment opportunity for Thai workers in Hurghada, especially for the masseuse. Hotel managers and spa owners praised Thai workers for their skill and expertise as well as their politeness. The spa owners have plan to open 2-3 new branches per year and would like to employ more masseuses from Thailand. In this regard, they seek assistance from the Embassy and the Office of Labour Affairs in Riyadh on reliable job agency, example of the standard work contract, and English language training for Thai workers. The delegation also visited the workplaces of Thai workers and inquired about their well-being and challenges that they face. Overall, most Thai workers are quite satisfied with their jobs. They receive some benefits that help with the cost of living and their employers treat them well.

In addition, the Ambassador met with H.E. Major General Amr Hanafi, Governor of the Red Sea Governorate. Both sides discussed ways to promote cooperation between each other, especially in tourism, culture, and people-to-people relation. The Embassy plans to collaborate with the private sector and Thai community to organise a Thai Festival in Hurghada in the future.
