On 20 April 2018, the Royal Thai Embassy in Cairo, in cooperation with the Egyptian Muay Thai Association (EMTA), organized Muay Thai competition at the sport hall of Faculty of Physical Education for Male, Alexandria University in Alexandria, Egypt’s second-largest city. The event organized 24 matches of boxing in which 48 Muay Thai boxers in Egypt participated. Most of the boxers come from Alexandria and nearby cities in North Coast and Nile Delta Region such as Marsa Matruh, Beheira and Rosetta.

The competition is the second Muay Thai event organized by the Royal Thai Embassy outside Cairo following the successful debut competition in Ismailia in February this year. The Embassy aims to make Muay Thai better known in Egypt and views that organizing Muay Thai competition outside Cairo would provide opportunities for local Muay Thai boxers to compete in their own or nearby cities and will help increasing Muay Thai’s popularity throughout the country.
