On September 23 and 27, 2024, the Royal Thai Embassy in Cairo organized screenings of the film "How to Make Millions Before Grandma Dies" (known in Thai as Lahn Mah) at the Mall of Egypt and Badr University in Cairo, respectively. The events drew a combined audience of approximately 200 people, including members of the diplomatic corps, film critics, media representatives, academics, "Friends of Thailand" members, Egyptian officials and the general public, the Thai community, and students from both Egypt and Thailand. Ambassador Thanavat Sirikul outlined the event's objectives: to foster people-to-people ties between Thailand and Egypt through the power of art and cinema by highlighting shared cultural values and universal themes, such as the importance of the family.
"How to Make Millions Before Grandma Dies" is a Thai film that achieved global box-office success, grossing over 2.2 billion baht across 103 countries. It won nine awards at the 33rd Suphannahong National Film Awards, including Best Picture. The film was registered as a National Film Heritage by the Thai Film Archive (Public Organization) and was selected by the National Federation of Thai Film Associations as Thailand’s entry for the 97th Academy Awards (Oscars) in the Best International Feature Film category, making history as the first Thai film to successfully advance to the shortlist of the final 15 contenders. This film screening event was made possible through the excellent cooperation of GDH559, Mr. Mohamad F. Sabry (Chairman of the Egypt-Thailand Business Council and CEO of United Brothers Studios), and Badr University in Cairo.
Before the screening at Badr University in Cairo, the Ambassador held discussions with the university's President, Prof. Dr. Ashraf El-Shihy, and the executive team regardning educational cooperation between Thai and Egyptian institutions. Additionally, following the screening, the Embassy served Thai cuisine—specifically shrimp cakes, grilled chicken, and mango sticky rice—to the participating faculty members and students.
