On 13 November 2024, Mr. Thanabordee Joothong, Chargé d’Affaires, a.i, hosted lunch for Ms. Anocha Suwichakornpong, Thai movie director, who was invited to be a jury at the 45th Cairo International Film Festival (CIFF), and for Mr. Poramate Minsiri, Deputy Director General of Thai PBS, and delegation, who are visiting Cairo to film a documentary. On the same day, the Chargé d’Affaires also attended the Opening Ceremony of the 45th CIFF at Cairo Opera House, which was inaugurated by His Excellency the Minister of Culture of Egypt.
The 45th CIFF is being held from 13 - 22 November 2024. Besides having a Thai movie director being the only Asian jury at the festival, there are two Thai films which have been selected for screenings this year, namely “By The Time It Gets Dark” (2016) by Director Anocha Suwichakornpong and “Djinn’s Curse” (2023) by Director Kriangkrai Monwichit. This greatly helps to elevate Thai film industry and promote Thai soft power in the Middle East and the Arab world.
CIFF is held annually and is one of the oldest film festivals in the Arab world and Africa. It is the only film festival in the region to have been classified as a Category A festival by the International Federation of Film Producers Associations (FIAPF).
