On 30 September 2025, H.E. Mr. Thanawat Sirikul, Ambassador of Thailand to Egypt , along with Mr. Kriengkrai Thiennukul, Chairman of the Federation of Thai Industries, H.E. Ms. Hala Youssef Ahmed Ragab, Ambassador of Egypt to Thailand, and Mr. Asi Tansathit, Chairman of the Thailand-Egypt Business Council, delivered opening remarks at the 3rd Seminar to Promote Trade and Investment between Thailand and Egypt under the theme "Egypt: Gateway to the Middle East, Europe, and Africa."
The seminar aimed to share useful information and experiences with Thai entrepreneurs and to build business networks between the private sectors of both countries, which will contribute to concrete and sustainable investment and trade in the future. Ambassador Thanawat emphasized the opportunities and potential of New Modern Egypt, the Egyptian government's determination to attract investment and support the private sector, and the widespread popularity of Thai products among the public. He noted that Egypt is a high-potential export market. During the first seven months of this year, Thai exports to Egypt have increased by 29 percent compared to 2024. Furthermore, Egypt enjoys advantages due to its strategic location and logistics infrastructures that connect it to key global markets, particularly through the Suez Canal, and free trade agreements with over 70 countries. The Egyptian government aims to become a highly competitive country in the world in terms of trade and investment within two years. In 2024, Egypt received US$46 billion in direct investment, ranking ninth in the world, first in Africa, and first in the Middle East.
The seminar featured three speakers namely Mr. Mohamed Sabry, Chairman of the Egypt-Thailand Business Council; Mr. Hamada Abdelsamad, Undersecretary at the Egypt’s General Authority for Investment and Free Zones (GAFI); and Mr. John Laycock, Chief Customer Officer of Hi-tech Apparel, the first Thai company to establish a factory (garment and textile) in Egypt. The seminar attracted over 90 Thai private sector participants, both physically and online, from diverse sectors, including food, automotive parts, rubber, construction materials, textiles, medical equipment, jewelry, electrical appliances, energy, and services, including software manufacturers, wellness, and banking.
