On 10 June 2024, Ms. Sasirit Tangulrat, Director-General of the Department of South Asian, Middle East and African Affairs, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Thailand, delivered opening remarks at the seminar entitled “New Modern Egypt: Tips in doing Business” at the Federation of Thai Industries. The seminar was co-hosted by the Royal Thai Embassy in Cairo and Thailand-Egypt Business Council and attended by the Egyptian Ambassador to Thailand and the Chairman of Thailand-Egypt Business Council.

On this occasion, the Director-General highlighted the Government’s proactive economic diplomacy which encourages Thai private sector to pay more attention to Africa, including Egypt, and the importance of enhancing cooperation and reviving networks between the private sector of the two countries. She also pointed out the major milestone of Thai investment in Egypt this year as Hi-Tech Apparel Co., Ltd. signed the agreement with the Suez Canal Economic Zone to establish a new manufacturing facility in Egypt.

This year’s seminar builds on last year’s “Egypt: The Future of Investment” seminar and focuses on the Egyptian private sector sharing information and insights on modern-day Egypt directly with the Thai private sector. The Royal Thai Embassy has invited Dr. Mohamed Youssef, Executive Director of the Egyptian Businessmen’s Association and Mr. Mahmoud Hatem, Vice President Middle East & Africa, Moharram & Partners for Public Affairs & Strategic Communications, to share about the current state of the Egyptian economy, ease of doing business, and opportunities within Egypt’s dynamic and growing market. Furthermore, representatives from Hi-Tech Apparel Co., Ltd., Dusit Thani Lakeview Cairo, and BYK Intertrade Co., Ltd. shared their experiences regarding Egypt’s readiness and openness to international partnerships.

This seminar is part of the Royal Thai Embassy’s project on business matching in the investment areas of mutual interests between Thailand and Egypt whereby the Embassy invites Egyptian business delegation to visit Thailand during 9-13 June 2024. Moreover, the seminar is part of the celebration of the 70th anniversary of the Thai-Egyptian diplomatic relations this year.
