Egyptian Delegate participated in Global Halal Forum at the World HAPEX Thailand 2024

On 30 August 2024, Dr. Alaa Abdelall Elnemr, Head of Veterinary Medicine Directorate in Giza, Ministry of Agriculture and Land Reclamation of Egypt, participated as a panel discussant in the Global Halal Forum on “Perspectives on the Development of Global Halal Industry as well as Its Opportunities and Challenges: in the Case of Each Country” at World HAPEX Thailand 2024.
On this occasion, Dr. Alaa briefed the Forum about the work of the General Organization for Veterinary Services (GOVS) on promoting halal industry in Egypt through providing halal certification, organising workshops and training courses aimed at raising awareness about complying with halal standards, and offering consultancy services to companies that are interested in entering halal market. At present, in Egypt, there are increasing demand of halal products for domestic consumption and for export. However, Egypt still encountered several challenges, including the need to comply with local and international standards, ensuring that Egypt’s halal certificates gains recognition in global market, and the need for other countries to invest in infrastructure and collaborate with local institutions with the aim to develop unified standards. In addition, Dr. Alaa pointed out that ISEG HALAL is responsible for issuing halal certificates in Egypt and has 7 offices worldwide.
This Global Halal Forum is organised for the first time by the Halal Institute of the Prince of Songkla University, in collaboration with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Thailand.
