On 7 July 2025, Ambassador Thanawat Sirikul, together with Mr. Niwat Aphichatbutra, Minister Counsellor/Commercial Attaché, Office of Commercial Affairs in Cairo, paid a courtesy call and discussed with Admiral Ossama Monir Mohamed Rabiee, Chairman and Managing Director of Suez Canal Authority. Both sides exchanged information on the current situation of shipping through the Suez Canal, opportunities to exchange knowledge on best practices between Thailand and Egypt, and promotion of investment and tourism in the Suez Canal area. The Suez Canal is a strategic shipping route connecting Asia and Europe, supporting around one-third of the world's container vessels each year.

Afterwards, the Ambassador traveled to Suez Canal Economic Zone (Abu Khalifa, Qantara West Industrial Zone) to visit the construction of a garment factory of Hi-Tech Apparel North Africa, a major Thai investment in Egypt worth over 1 billion Egyptian pounds. It will create more than 2,000 jobs for local people. During the meeting with the company manager and executives of the economic zone, it was learned that construction is progressing according to plan, and production is expected to start in early 2026. The economic zone is an opportunity for investment by Thai businessmen who want to expand their production base due to tax incentives, strategic location, and low costs. The Royal Thai Embassy will share information with the Thai private sector on future occasions, including when leading a Thai business delegation to visit Egypt this September.
