On 2 December 2018 His Excellency Mr. Chainarong Keratiyutwong, Ambassador of Thailand together with the delegation from the Office of the Sheikhul Islam of Thailand led by Mr. Sutham Boonmalert, Secretary to His Eminence Mr. Aziz Phitakkumpon, Sheikhul Islam of Thailand, Mr. Faisol Leewan, Head of the World Association for Al-Azhar Graduates in Thailand and executive directors of religious schools in Thailand paid a courtesy call on His Eminence Sheikh Salah Abbas, the Deputy Grand Imam of Sheikh of Al-Azhar and His Excellency Ambassador Abdulrahman Musa, Advisor to His Eminence the Grand Imam Sheikh of Al-Azhar. Both sides had discussed various issues concerning the education of Thai Muslim students in Egypt namely renewal of the curriculum equalization between religious schools in Thailand and Al-Azhar University and the establishment of the Al-Azhar's Arabic language center in Thailand. 

 Furthermore, the Thai side had also met and discussed with Prof.Dr. Mohy El-Deen Afifi, the Secretary General of Al-Azhar Islamic Research Complex, Prof. Dr Ali Moussa, Head of Equalization Department at Al-Azhar Islamic Research Complex and Dr. Fathy Abdulfatah Fahmi, Director General of Foreign Students’ Affairs (Wafidin), Al-Azhar University. The meeting was successfully concluded with Al-Azhar's acceptance of concerned documents from the Thai delegation in order to further proceed the renewal process.
