The Royal Thai Embassy in Cairo, in cooperation with Egyptian Chefs Association (ECA), organized a Thai cooking demonstration at White Elephant Thai Restaurant in a popular resort city of Hurghada on the Red Sea Coast on 17th July 2018. It is the second event of “Thai Cooking Demo Series 2018” which Thai Embassy plans to organize in various cities in Egypt in order to promote Thai cuisine throughout the country.

At the event, Thai Chefs from White Elephant Restaurant and leading hotels in Hurghada demonstrated how to cook 6 Thai dishes, namely Pad Thai, Tom Yum Goong, Tod Man pla (Fried Fish Cakes), Stir-Fried Beef in Oyster Sauce, Look Choup (Fruit-Shaped Mung Beans in Jelly), Med Kanoon (Golden Jackfruit Seeds). 20 Egyptian Chefs, most of which are Executive Chefs from leading restaurants in Hurghada and nearby cities, attended the demonstration. They were excited to learn Thai cooking technique and were particularly impressed with the making of Look Choup and Med Kanoon, two Thai desserts which require both delicacy and expertise.

The Royal Thai Embassy in Cairo continuously promotes Thai cuisine through several activities in accordance with the Royal Thai Government’s “Thai Kitchen of the World” initiative. Apart from cooking demonstrations and workshops, last year the Embassy organized Thai cooking competition among young Egyptian Chefs, which helped increase Thai food’s popularity among circle of Egyptian Chefs.
