On 29-30 June 2018, the Royal Thai Embassy in Cairo, in cooperation with the Egyptian Muay Thai Association (EMTA), organized “Muay Thai Egypt Cup 2018” at Cairo Stadium Hall No. 3 in which 64 Muay Thai boxers competed in 8 weight classes.

Apart from 38 top Egyptian boxers, there were also 26 foreign Muay Thai boxers from Morocco, Algeria, Libya, Jordan and Côte d’Ivoire participating in this competition. This year also saw record number of fans attending the event; there were about 1,000 spectators, both Egyptian and foreigners, who came to support their heroes and enjoy the competition each day.

This annual competition is the third Muay Thai competition which the Embassy organized this year, following two successful events in Ismailia and Alexandria in February and April respectively. It is also part of the Embassy’s ardent effort to promote this Thai national sport to become even more popular in Egypt.
