On 16 February 2018, the Royal Thai Embassy in Cairo, in cooperation with the Egyptian Muay Thai Association (EMTA), organized Muay Thai competition at Suez Canal Authority Stadium Hall 1 in Ismailia. The event organized 24 matches of boxing in which 48 Muay Thai boxers in Egypt including 1 Sudanese and 4 child boxers participated.

The competition is the first Muay Thai event organized by the Royal Thai Embassy outside Cairo with the aim to make Muay Thai better known to other cities in Egypt. The event is successful as it provides opportunities for local Muay Thai boxers to compete in Muay Thai tournament in their own or nearby cities and is widely covered and reported in various Egyptian media.
