On 18 December 2025, H.E. Mr. Thanawat Sirikul, Ambassador of Thailand to Egypt attended the 282nd ASEAN Committee in Cairo (ACC) meeting at the Giza Palace Hotel. The meeting was chaired by the Ambassador of Myanmar and hosted by the Embassy of Singapore. The meeting discussed activities to enhance ASEAN awareness in Egypt and ASEAN-Egypt relations for 2026 at the government, private sector, and people-to-people levels, encompassing political, economic, sports, and cultural aspects. Thailand proposed coordinating two activities: the 7th and 8th ASEAN Lectures, in collaboration with leading Egyptian universities or other appropriate institutions such as business associations and think tanks. The ASEAN Lectures are a Thai initiative dating back to 2023. Furthermore, Ambassador Thanawat assumed the chairmanship of the ACC from the Ambassador of Myanmar for the first half of 2026. Following the meeting, a farewell was paid to H.E. Mr. Lutfi Rauf, the Indonesian Ambassador, whose term will expire at the end of December 2025.
