On 16 August 2019, the Royal Thai Embassy in Cairo, in cooperation with the Egyptian Muay Thai Association (EMTA), organized Muay Thai competition at Genena City Mall in Sharm el Sheikh. The event organized 11 matches of boxing in which 22 Muay Thai boxers participated and was well-attended by more than 1,000 spectators.

The competition is the second Muay Thai event organized by the Royal Thai Embassy this year following previous successful event in Port Said in February. The Thai Embassy has continuously organized Muay Thai-related events in Cairo and other cities in Egypt since 2014 with the aims to make Muay Thai better known throughout Egypt, especially among children and youths, who recently started to learn and enjoy practicing the sport.
