On 14April 2026, H.E. Mr. Thanawat Sirikul, Thailand's Ambassador to Egypt, along with Ambassadors from ASEAN Member States in Cairo, attended the seventh ASEAN Lecture. This event was organized in partnership with the Faculty of Business Administration, Economics and Political Science and Centre for Egypt, and Middle East Studies at the British University in Egypt. Over 80 participants, including executives, faculty members, and students, took part in the event.

 

As Chairman of the Committee, Ambassador Thanawat delivered an overview covering ASEAN's history, objectives, structures, economic strengths, working methods, partnerships with other countries, and both current challenges and future opportunities. Attendees actively asked questions about regional developments, major power relations, ASEAN’s strategies for new challenges, collaboration in education and culture, factors behind ASEAN’s success as a leading international organization, and perspectives on diplomacy.

 

After the presentation, everyone had the chance to enjoy traditional ASEAN dishes, with Thailand featuring Khanom Chan (a layered jelly dessert) and pandan coconut jelly. The ASEAN Lecture series, initiated by the Royal Thai Embassy, ​​has been hosted biannually since 2023. This seventh session continued its mission to promote ASEAN awareness in Egypt.
