On 2 October 2024, Mr. Thanabordee Joothong, Chargé d'Affaires a.i., together with Ambassadors and Chargé d'Affaires a.i. from ASEAN Committee in Cairo (ACC) attended the Seminar on ASEAN at the Institute for Diplomatic Studies (IDS). There were over 60 attendees including Ambassador Walid Haggag, Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs and Director of the IDS, executives from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Egypt as well as diplomatic attachés enrolled at the IDS. The Ambassador of Singapore as the Chair of ACC gave a briefing on the history and economic integration of ASEAN, the relations between ASEAN and Egypt, key factors of success and challenges which can be a lesson for other regions.

During the exchange of views and Q&A, diplomatic attachés had the opportunity to discuss issues of their interests such as defense cooperation in ASEAN, rivalries between major powers in the Asia-Pacific region, ASEAN’s position on Gaza, and situation in the South China Sea, as well as bilateral relations with Egypt.

This event was held for the second time since 2022, with the aim of promoting awareness about ASEAN among young Egyptian diplomats.
