During 23-27 August 2025, Prof. Dr. Nazir Mohamed Mohamed Elnazir Ayad, Grand Mufti of Egypt, visited Thailand as guest of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.  During the visit, the Grand Mufti met several high-level officials including the President of the National Assembly, Sheikhul Islam of Thailand, Vice Minister for Foreign Affairs, the Governor of Pattani Province, and the Deputy Secretary General of the Southern Border Provinces Administrative Center. He shared his experience and discussed ways to promote cooperation on issuance of religious rulings (fatwa) with the Council of Senior Scholars of the Sheikhul Islam of Thailand. He also lectured the Thai students who will continue their study at Al-Azhar University and the students at Prince of Songkla University, Pattani Campus, and met with religious leaders in Bangkok at Tonson Mosque and in the southern border provinces at the Pattani Central Mosque.

This visit, at the invitation of the Thai side, aimed to promote people-to-people relations between Thailand and Egypt in the religious and cultural spheres through the exchange of best practices in issuing religious rulings amid technological changes, including artificial intelligence, and the promotion of moderation and peaceful coexistence in a multicultural society.
