On 1 June 2025, His Excellency Thanawat Sirikul, Ambassador of Thailand to Egypt paid a courtesy visit to H.E. Dr. Nazir Mohammed Ayyad, Grand Mufti of the Arab Republic of Egypt, at the Dar Al-Ifta in Cairo. Dr. Ibrahim Negm, Senior Advisor to the Grand Mufti and Secretary General of Fatwa Authorities Worldwide, also attended the meeting.
During the discussion, the Grand Mufti highlighted the strong ties between Thailand and Egypt and underscored the importance of collaboration in religion and culture. He expressed his admiration for the harmonious and pluralistic nature of Thai society.
Additionally, the Grand Mufti affirmed his readiness to collaborate with Thailand, particularly in the areas of education and training for religious scholars and imams. This includes guidance on interpretation and issuing of Fatwas, aimed at fostering a deeper understanding of moderate Islamic principles, particularly on contemporary and complex issues such as Artificial Intelligence, family cohesion and counter extremism.
Ambassador Thanawat commended Egypt’s role in advancing moderate Islamic teachings and expressed his gratitude to the Grand Mufti for his continued cooperation with the Royal Thai Embassy, especially on the annual training of the Thai students in Egypt. He reaffirmed his readiness to further cooperation with Dar Al-Ifta in the future.
