On 21 February 2024, Mr. Thanabordee Joothong, Chargé d'Affaires a.i., attended the opening ceremony of the 3rd African Muaythai Championship at Cairo International Stadium, organised by the Egyptian Muaythai Federation. The ceremony was also attended by representatives from the Ministry of Youth and Sports of Egypt, International Federation of Muaythai Associations (IFMA), and Amateur Muaythai Association of Thailand (AMAT). There were 28 African countries participated in the championship and 12 countries qualified for the final round, including Egypt, Mauritius, Nigeria, Sudan, Tunisia, Senegal, Morocco, Libya and Algeria.

This was the first African Muaythai Championship after Muaythai was recognised by the Association of African Sports Confederations, representing the 54 National Olympic Committees in Africa, last year. It is an important milestone paving the way for the inclusion of Muaythai in the Olympics.
